Power and Performance
The new VW Taos has the same engine as the prior model – a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder- but it’s revamped to deliver more power. It now chugs out 174 horsepower, a nice increase from the 158 horses in the 2024 version. Torque remains the same at 184 lb-ft. Inside the engine, modified piston rings and fuel injectors, a revised turbo housing, a larger intercooler, and a new gasoline particulate filter help improve fuel efficiency.
All-wheel drive (4Motion®) models now come equipped with a more conventional 8-speed automatic transmission rather than the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, which provides better traction and stability.

Interior updates include styling tweaks and more upscale materials, giving the cabin a more modern look and feel. The Volkswagen Taos S boasts two-tone black and gray cloth seating, while the SE and SE Black models have cloth and CloudTex upholstery. All SEL versions include leather seats in a two-tone black and gray or a gorgeous dark blue. And thanks to new acoustic dampening treatments, you’ll enjoy a quieter ride.
