If you haven’t heard the news, the VW bus is back and better than ever! That’s right, Volkswagen is heralding the return of the iconic and beloved Microbus, but this time as an all-electric model! The 2025 VW ID.Buzz in Albuquerque, NM is a modern take on the old classic, and it comes with retro charm, innovative technology, and a versatile interior.
Models and Trims
Although a short wheelbase two-row and a commercial/cargo model will be offered in Europe, those won’t be making it to our shores. The U.S. will get the three-row passenger model with seating for up to seven passengers across a longer, extended wheelbase body style.
Three trims are offered: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and First Edition (launch-only). There will also be three solid exterior paint colors: Candy White, Deep Black Pearl, or Metro Silver, and eight two-tone paint options. Three gorgeous interior color schemes are also offered.
Interior Space and Comfort
One of the best things about the original VW Microbus was its roomy and practical interior. The new ID.Buzz aims to impress in the same way. By taking advantage of the space-saving EV drivetrain (which eliminates the need for an engine compartment and transmission tunnel), the ID.Buzz can provide more room for passengers and cargo, with excellent accessibility.
You can anticipate this new minivan to have a bright, airy cabin with large windows and an open layout. A clean, uncluttered look with a digital instrument panel and a large, central infotainment screen as the focal point will greet you as you step in. Customizable ambient lighting adds a splash of color and flair. Of course, device-charging options are of utmost importance in a family hauler, and the new VW bus offers type-C USB ports in all three rows, along with a wireless charging pad and a 115V AC outlet. It also abounds with advanced safety and driver-assist tech.
With the long wheelbase, even tall passengers will be able to stretch out comfortably. The three-row extended wheelbase will fit adults comfortably in all three rows, a rare accomplishment for any vehicle!
And thanks to its boxy shape, the ID.Buzz will offer impressive cargo volume. With back seats folded, you can get up to 145.5 cubic feet of cargo capacity! Convenience features such as a power liftgate, low load floor, and sliding side doors make accessing that cargo space as easy as can be.
2025 VW ID.Buzz in Albuquerque, NM: Drivetrain and Range
There are two available powertrains. The first is a single, rear-mounted electric motor that churns out 282 horsepower. The other is an all-wheel drive version with two motors and 335 horsepower. Both are fed by an 86.0-kWh battery, delivering an EPA-rated 234-mile range in the single motor setup and a 231-mile range for the dual.
The Pro S is only available as a rear-wheel-drive model, but the Pro S Plus gives you a choice of RWD or AWD (4Motion). The top-tier First Edition is also available as RWD or AWD.
As for charging, Volkswagen says the ID.Buzz will juice up from 10% to 80% in as few as 26 minutes at a DC fast charger. For regular charging at home or work, expect about 7-11 hours for a full charge, depending on the onboard charger’s capacity.
