Anticipating the 2025 VW ID.Buzz near Rio Rancho, NM

The return of the iconic VW Microbus is getting closer to reality in the form of the 2025 VW ID.Buzz near Rio Rancho, NM. With a modern makeover including new technology and a zero-emissions, all-electric powertrain, the North American version will boast three rows of seating and lots of room for cargo, making it the ultimate family hauler.

In its heyday, people from all types of households purchased the original VW bus, but since then, it’s become primarily associated with the counterculture “hippie” movement of the late 1960s and early 70s. While the new ID.Buzz is a reimagined and revised model of the original; it’s also a well-equipped, comfortable, and very modern vehicle (dare we say minivan?) that’s up for anything your conventional or unconventional family can bring its way!

2025 VW ID.Buzz near Rio Rancho, NM: Specs

A dream come true for any hippie from “back in the day” and today’s eco-conscious drivers, the ID.Buzz is environmentally friendly with no harmful emissions. Like the original, the new Buzz has rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted power source. But now the power comes from a quiet and emissions-free electric motor. And while the old microbus was famous for its slow-moving pace, the ID.Buzz delivers up to 282 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. An all-wheel drive variant utilizing a second motor up front will have a combined 330 hp and will become available later in the year.

The 91 kWh battery supplies power for the motor(s) and is housed beneath the floor of the van, giving it a low center of gravity that yields more stability. Driving range numbers have yet to be specified, but something around 260 miles for RWD and 250 miles for AWD is probable.

Design

With its two-tone paint, a prominent (and now illuminated) front VW badge, and D-pillar vents, the new ID.Buzz sports several nods to its ancestry while at the same time presenting an advanced design. Power sliding doors allow easy access to the third row after moving the second row forward four inches by pulling a handle. A slight kick under the rear bumper will quickly open and close the hands-free power tailgate.

Seven passengers can fit inside the standard ID.Buzz, but second-row captain’s chairs are available, which brings the number down to six. However, thanks to the generous legroom, those six or seven occupants can be really tall adults! If you need to haul large items, both rows will fold flat, and a “Flexboard” will create a flat cargo floor with extra space beneath it. Need even more room for cargo? The third row can be removed entirely.
